Novartis Drug Production for irritable bowel syndrome Stopped
Beijing – China’s State Food and Drug Administration ordered that production and sale of Novartis AG’s Zelnorm for irritable bowel syndrome be stopped due to the fact that its risks outweigh the potential benefits for its users.
The halting of production and sale, which affected over three drug companies, was prompted by the numerous reports that China’s National Center for Adverse Drug Reaction Monitoring has received regarding the adverse effects of Zelnorm.
Novartis spokeswoman Corinne Hoff has already announced that they are complying with the Food and Drug Administration’s request to suspend the marketing and sales activity of the drug in China after it was linked to a higher chance of heart attack, stroke and worsening chest pain.
